When it comes to mentoring, there is no culture better than that among businesses in Germany. The way they mentor their younger employees by attaching them to seasoned seniors, it doesn’t happen anywhere else. Over the centuries they’ve developed an apprenticeship culture. an expert takes a protégé under his/her aegis and nurtures the young one in the skills that he/ she possesses. Learning on the job has anyway been found to be the most effective in numerous studies all over the world. And that’s how expertise passes on through the generations. We would gain a lot by emulating something similar in our organisations.
