The biggest impediment according to my experience is that guys who actually need mentoring don’t opt for it. Either they shy away from signing up due to inhibitions or on the other side of the continuum think that they know everything and don’t need to be mentored.

Mentoring is very deeply routed in the Growth Mindset. Those who believe that we can improve with efforts can benefit a lot from either having a mentor or mentoring someone else. It’s mutually beneficial for both the mentor and the mentee.
